3 tips if your dog jumps up at visitors.

FIRSTLY, if your dog jumps up at people I have no judgement, my dog jumps at me because he’s small so it doesn’t bother me and I’ve never put the effort into training him not to ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ BUT of course you might have guests who don’t appreciate it or who are frail.

SECONDLY, it’s too close to the big day to really talk about training your dog not to do this, so we’re just talking about *management* at this range.

Right, the tips…

1: keep your dog away as everyone’s arriving. Put your dog in their safe space, ideally in another room with a tasty kong, and get all the excited greeting out the way before letting your dog interact in a calm manner.

2: have your dog on a lead in the house. Use a soft lead (like a normal rope lead, deffo not a flexi or chain lead) and let it drag on the floor. This isn’t to yank your dog away, this is just to gently take hold of to redirect your dog away from their jumping target. BE CAREFUL NOT TO STEP ON THE LEAD, OR GET IT WRAPPED AROUND ANKLES! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

3: reward the behaviour you want. Reward your dog for all good choices that are not jumping at people.

Remember that this can be a stressful and confusing time for your dog โค Be kind and have a great Christmas ๐ŸŽ„
